Updated 10.12.2024
This is a formal statement that outlines Sustera’s commitment to managing its environmental impact. It serves as a guiding document for Sustera’s efforts to reduce its environmental footprint, comply with legal and regulatory requirements, and promote continual improvement in environmental performance.
The management of Sustera is committed to the continual improvement of the Environmental Management Systems, according to compliance obligations, by following the principles and requirements of ISO 14001:2015.
Sustera has identified the most significant environmental aspects of its business operations, based on which an environmental policy has been developed to support the achievement of goals. The key commitments include:
- Positive impact on the environment through our services:
Buildings account for 40% of energy consumption and 36% of carbon emissions over their lifecycle. To fight climate change and biodiversity loss, we must make them more energy-efficient and durable. With our services, we seek solutions that reduce our clients’ carbon footprint. This can be called our carbon handprint that expresses the climate benefits of using our products or services. We aim to incorporate the carbon handprint more comprehensively into evaluating our services in the coming years.
- Climate change mitigation:
We recognize the urgent need to take action to mitigate climate change by reducing our carbon footprint. Therefore, we have committed to setting near-term Science-Based Targets (SBTi) to guide our efforts to mitigate our negative impact on climate.
- Compliance with Legislation:
We are committed to complying with all relevant environmental laws, regulations, and other requirements that apply to our operations. We also take account the best practices to ensure that our operations adhere to the highest environmental standards.
- Continuous Improvement and Measurement:
We are committed to identifying and continuously improving our operations from an environmental perspective. We have set targets for our environmental efforts and monitor their progress annually in our sustainability report.
- Environmental Risk Identification and Assessment:
We identify and assess environmental risks related to our operations and strive to manage them. We continue to systemically develop our risk management to prevent potential risks to the business including environment. Business continuity is enabled by increasing the organization’s awareness of various opportunities and threats. Risk management is outlined in more detailed in our risk management policy.
- Employee Engagement and Training:
We provide our employees ongoing information and training about environmental issues to improve our Environmental Management. Guidelines intended for our personnel, such as travel instructions, also take environmental aspects into account.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
We engage our stakeholders to promote environmental awareness and work collaboratively towards shared environmental goals. We encourage our suppliers through agreements where practicable to prioritize such issues as eco-design, durability and recyclability of purchased components, sustainable forestry, energy efficiency, emissions reductions and proactive environmental protection.
